New Voices Institute
Through establishment of an Institute focused on outreach, New Voices will actively seek to grow the capacities beyond our region so that schools and communities across our state will be better equipped to meet the complex needs of these children.
The New Voices Institute will serve as a resource and training “hub” for students (initially from UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke and NC State and other local colleges), professionals and teachers to develop skills to work with this population of children. The Institute will develop mechanisms to teach communities across our state and the country how to build the capacities of schools to successfully include these children in regular classrooms. It has always been the goal of New Voices to create an innovative, replicable service model or “template,” and assist communities in developing programs and expertise.
The New Voices Institute will seek to drive policy reform for improved access and quality services. Serving as an advocacy and education organization, the Institute will foster strategic efforts across academic, political and educational lines and help create new funding mechanisms for school systems and families.
